LILLEY: Poilievre offers moral clarity on Iran, Trudeau dithers
The Trudeau Liberals have had three positions in two days on Iran getting nuclear weapons.

So, do the Liberals support striking at Iran to ensure they don’t obtain nuclear weapons or are they opposed?
The issue came up after Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre was asked about the possibility of Israel striking back at Iran after last week’s Iranian attack on Israel.
On the questions of Israel taking out Iranian nuclear weapons, Poilievre was clear, concise and provided moral clarity.
“The idea of allowing a genocidal, theocratic, unstable dictatorship that is desperate to avoid being overthrown by its own people, to develop nuclear weapons is about the most dangerous and irresponsible thing that the world could ever allow,” Poilievre said.
“And if Israel were to stop that genocidal theocratic unstable government from acquiring nuclear weapons, it would be a gift by the Jewish state to humanity.”
You don’t get clarity like that from politicians very often and it is welcome.
Iran is led by an extreme view of Islam, one that sees Israel, the United States and the entire Western world as a threat. They view liberal democracies where people have freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of any sort as a threat.
They want to eliminate Israel, not only because it is a Jewish state, but also because they view it as an outpost of Western democratic values. For that reason, they want it gone and are funding Hamas, Hezbollah and the Houthis.
They are also trying to obtain nuclear weapons but have so far been unsuccessful. Poilievre was clear, he thinks Iran getting nuclear weapons is a bad idea and should be stopped, but the Liberals can’t come up with a clear position.
“Well first, it is against international law,” Trudeau’s Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly said on Wednesday in response to Poilievre. “Second, we need to make sure that there’s a proportionate response by Israel to, of course, an attack that they were victims of by Iran.”
Okay, let’s deal first with international law.
You know what else is against international law? Iran attacking Israel directly or via their proxies in Hamas, Hezbollah or the Houthis – but that’s what they have been doing for years.

What has the captain of Team Hamas inside the Liberal Party been doing to try and clamp down on the regime that killed more than 50 Canadians when they shot down flight PS 752? The answer is nothing, she’s more concerned with lecturing Israel and trying to score political points at home by using tragedy outside of the country.
Then there is Bill Blair, Canada’s defence minister. On Wednesday, he said attacking Iran’s nuclear facilities would violate international law.
“Canada is a signatory to the Geneva Convention, which very specifically prohibits any military attack on a nuclear facility,” Blair said.
Then on Thursday, appearing before a Commons committee, Blair flipped and then flopped.
“I think the international community has a responsibility to do everything it can to prevent Iran from attaining those things,” Blair told a Commons committee when answering questions about nuclear weapons and Iran.
Should the world do everything it can to stop the Mullahs in Tehran from obtaining nuclear weapons or would that be against international law?

The Liberals can’t make up their minds, they don’t have a clear moral position on this issue, and they look foolish.
No sane person thinks the Islamic regime in Tehran should have nuclear weapons. If they do obtain them, the world immediately becomes much more dangerous.
Poilievre is correct, if Israel were to strike Iran and stop them on their path to becoming a nuclear power, that would be a gift to humanity.
Too bad Joly, Blair and Trudeau are too worried about demographics in key ridings to see the truth.
