We agree it was the fractured French of Liberal front-runner Mark Carney that led him to say in the French-language leaders debate that all four contenders for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s job agree with the terrorist group Hamas.

He was quickly interrupted by Chrystia Freeland, who pointed out that all four leadership contenders agree about Hamas — that it should not be the government of an independent Palestinian state — prompting Carney to quickly clarify that he agreed.
But what we also believe is that under the leadership of Trudeau and whoever replaces him as Liberal leader and PM, the Liberals are no longer a reliable ally of Israel.
Nor are they effective guardians of the safety of Jews in Canada when Hamas and other terrorist groups that are proxies of Iran wage their never-ending wars to destroy Israel and kill or expel its Jews.

At the United Nations and on Parliament Hill, the Liberals under Trudeau have drifted further and further away from the moral clarity of previous Conservative prime ministers Brian Mulroney and Stephen Harper and current Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre, who have consistently and unequivocally expressed support for Israel and denounced antisemitism in Canada.
By contrast, Trudeau and Co. have been increasingly captured by today’s woke political ideology that portrays Israel as the Little Satan of the Mideast, backed by the Big Satan of the United States.
Of course, they’ve expressed motherhood statements of support for Canada’s besieged Jewish community as events in the Mideast following Hamas’ terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and Israel’s military response led to the worst outbreak of antisemitism in Canada since the 1930s.

But always with the qualifier that hatred against Muslims, Arabs and Palestinians is also wrong — which is true and we unequivocally condemn it.
But to pretend the attacks against Jews in Canada have been the same as those on Muslims, Arabs and Palestinians living in Canada, in quantity and severity, is absurd.
Jews in Canada didn’t march into Muslim neighbourhoods calling for the death of Muslims and when Jews demonstrated in support of Israel, they flew the flag of Canada — not Hamas or other terrorist groups.
The failure of Canada’s Liberal government to acknowledge this speaks volumes about the morally compromised state of the Liberal party today.
