STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed that in 2015, former PM Stephen Harper was seen as stuffy, boring, and not terribly exciting, but Justin Trudeau was seen as cool, hip, and a true rock star! It’s no wonder Canadians chose Justin over boring Stephen, as he is one of the beautiful people that Derek Zoolander always talked about so affectionately. There were even fawning, alluring articles in glossy magazines, like Rolling Stone, with lovingly composed photographs showing off his beautiful hair and rock star looks, alongside a coverline asking, ‘Why can’t he be our president?’ He was touted as the saviour of us all, with his equally beautiful wife and her Yoko Ono-inspired, off-key singing style, promising us legal weed and the opportunity to party with him at Taylor Swift concerts and costume parties featuring a variety of ethnic costumes and bananas. Now, with our current PM, Trudeau 2.0, also known as Mark “His Majesty” Carney, coming down from his Manhattan penthouse to save Canada, we are back to having one of those super-boring, stuffy financial geeks, just like Harper, who once joked that he became an economist because he didn’t have the charisma to be an accountant. So, are the Liberals trying to tell us that style is not more important than substance after all?

(In 2015, the Liberals were willing to sell any narrative which put Trudeau in the most positive light, and bluntly, at the time Canadians were looking for change. Look where that got us as a nation. In a financial mess, an immigration crisis, high taxes and slow to no economic growth. Voting for Carney changes none of that — even if he is boring)

NOTHING IS FREE

This election, I’d like people to keep this one fact in mind when they vote. There is only one taxpayer. You! Yes, it would be nice to have everything seem free but it isn’t. The government has only one source of income: Your money. The more the free things are dangled to entice you, the more taxes you will pay. You cannot cut taxes without cutting something else. Simple math that escapes governments.

(The government has grown to such an unsustainable size and the cost has been freebies to appease the NDP to stay in power)
