DEFUND THE CBC
Regarding the editorial “Taxpayers deserve to know CBC salaries” (Aug. 18), there are many facts contained therein that are extremely disturbing. On top of the obscenity of bonuses being paid in the first place, the fact that there are 631 managers alone is beyond ridiculous. Then we find out that since Trudeau took office the number of employees at the CBC earning six figures has increased by 230% and now represents 20% of all employees. Just another kick in the groin to those who pay those salaries — the taxpayer whose average salary is 30% less than that. This for a network that fewer and fewer people watch and is nothing but a propaganda machine for the Liberal Party. Keep it up, Catherine Tait, you’re just causing more and more people to agree with Pierre Poilievre. Defund the CBC now!

(If Poilievre becomes Prime Minister, this is a commitment he has no intention to back down from. He’s campaigned on it so it won’t be a shock when he does move to defund the CBC)

RECALL LAWS NOW
We hear about insurrections and tyrannical governments overthrown by disenfranchised voters in other countries. We read about non-confidence votes and revolts by the House in Britain. These politicians understand parliamentary traditions and comply. The U.S.A. has term limits. These may not work as unpopular leaders can enact unwanted laws before being evacuated. Impeachment has worked when used in good faith. Lawfare, abusing use of the judiciary, is autocratic. As Steve Nease brilliantly illustrates in his Aug. 18 editorial cartoon, Canada desperately needs recall laws. When an unethical, undemocratic leader will not step down voluntarily, citizens need the statutory ability to remove him from power.

FORD IS THE JOKE
Re “Ford’s vet health joke shows absurdity of our system” (Brian Lilley, Aug. 17): Doug Ford’s vet health joke illustrates the absurdity of having Doug Ford as premier.
