GOVERNMENT OVERHAUL

Forget Trudeau, Poilievre should watch what Trump does and start preparing to do likewise. Trump will make mistakes, too, but that’s the learning moment for us. Steamroll the old guard, who have ignored and resisted change for at least 50 years. They have protected their industries with inefficient labour, intensive over-management and inefficient protective markets while ignoring resource industries like oil where we have both absolute and comparative advantages. Streamline the services such as education, health care, social services, immigration, young offender and law and order while cutting corporate welfare and endless giveaways to any crooked agencies and governments who come knocking. Let our industries provide the technology for efficiencies, instead of government taxing the butts off of citizens to meet some ideological objective while they try to legislate efficiency. It’s a huge job and the sooner we get on it, the sooner it will get done. Let’s hire the best qualified professionals to undertake these tasks and leave the actors backstage.

(This is a fine blueprint for the long list of issues Poilievre will have to fix if he becomes prime minister next year. The damage the Trudeau Liberals have done is going to take time to unwind)

TARIFF WARS

The narcissistic, convicted felon who will formally take office on Jan. 20, 2025 has threatened to put 25% tariffs on all products imported from Mexico and Canada, and 10% on Chinese products. He threatens this action despite the numerous warnings that they will increase the cost of products to U.S. citizens, not to mention the turmoil and trade disruption which will result in Americans purchasing fewer products from all three countries. For Canada, let’s hope a Conservative negotiating team will be assembled when discussions begin on a new USMCA, a team which will better reflect Canadian values than the previous Liberal team, which was certainly not favoured by Trump.

(Canada’s best chance is a new government in Ottawa)

 STAY OUT OF IT TORY

Re “Tory’s drug policy a failure” (Brian Lilley, Nov. 30): I sure hope John Tory’s not going to run for mayor again, he’s already done enough damage to our city — sanctuary city is just one, look how that turned out for the people.

Sylvia Saunders

(Tory should sit the next one out, and the one after that, etc.)
