The Liberal policies (especially the carbon tax) have created conditions for a horrible economic situation. Small businesses are struggling and some have already closed due to having to repay CEBA loans. If the economy was half of what it was before COVID, the repayment would not be a problem. The economy sucks, and a compassionate government would give more time. It’s not just the fact that the Liberals won’t help the back-bone of the economy (small businesses), it’s the smugness with which they brush us off. Just watch any CEBA interview with Freeland, Valdez or Trudeau and you will see what I mean. “Let them eat cake!” should be the Liberal slogan for the next election.
(The Trudeau Liberals have so poorly mismanaged the finances of our great country, it’s hard to imagine how we will ever dig out of their disasters)

A SENSE OF FEAR
Reading Warren Kinsella’s column about the gift of Trump and the Liberals using it to exploit votes (“A gift for the Grits,” Jan. 23) — this is not an optimal strategy. The problem with stale governments like Trudeau’s is that they have lost the vision. Every government that is long in the tooth loses its direction and tries to use negativity to gain votes. People are looking to the future and see the path they are on has a losing proposition. If the Grits do anything, they need to sell a vision for the future — oh, that’s right, their track record is not favourable. Back to painting the other side with the fear brush.
Peter Karas Oakville
(The Liberals’ vision for the future is simply what they have done in the past — tax, spend, repeat)

FREE MONEY COMES WITH A COST
The scuttlebutt circulating among right-wing media outlets regarding our next election is worrying. The only hope open for Liberals in the coming election is to combine the idea that Pierre Poilievre and Conservatives are right-wing threats to democracy with a promise for a universal basic income. I’m concerned that such a divisive approach that compares Poilievre to Trump — along with the promise of free money — could sway that component of the electorate that usually remains uninformed and uninterested.

(You are right to be concerned and yes it will work on some that vote. The onus is on Poilievre to push back against it)
