I was born in 1938 and since that time there have been millions killed and maimed due to wars like the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, Syria, Gaza, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Then we have terrorism that kills thousands for religious reasons or deep-rooted hatreds with mass shootings taking the lives of the innocent. Now in New Orleans, just hours into a new year, a terrorist takes 14 people’s lives. Lord, if you’re listening, please stop in 2025 this senseless cycle of death and destruction by mankind. Amen!

LEAD BY EXAMPLE

We desperately need another leader like Jean Chretien. A leader who can wrangle the debt, reform welfare and get people who can work out working and stand up for our sovereignty. A strong, no-nonsense politician who is looking out for all Canadians regardless of their political stripes and can be sensible about taxing the hard-working people. We cannot tolerate any more weakling, no-nothing, Trudeau-like leaders!

TWIST OF THE WRIST

Years ago, I treated myself to a new watch. It was a while after the country went to metric. My purchase was a new digital, which was gaining in popularity. A month or so later, while driving to work, a story came on about changing time to metric along with the metric system. So, here I am with a nice $330 decoration. All day at work, I shared my sad story. On the way home from work, the DJ was regaling about the morning story about the April Fool’s joke about digital time. Sure got me! Thanks for the story in the Jan. 3 paper about the 50th anniversary of going metric (“How do you convert a half-century of metric into imperial?” The Canadian Press).
