SNOW JOB
Re “Justin Trudeau is 2023’s biggest loser” (Warren Kinsella, Dec. 27): Because 1984 was a leap year, Feb. 29 was the day Pierre Trudeau informed Parliament of his intention to resign as prime minister. The new year, 2024, also happens to be a leap year. Perhaps Justin Trudeau might consider “a walk in the snow” on the 28th of February, followed by an announcement a day later telling Parliament of his intention to soon quit the job of prime minister. No doubt, many Canadians will relish the deja-vu symmetry of this nod to historical precedent.
Leadership change is a healthy part of a political party. It fosters young talent in the party with vibrant new ideas on how to make society better. Unfortunately, Trudeau in Ottawa and Notley in Alberta have overstayed the normal life of a political leader. Instead of showing their party has a wealth of leadership choices, they seem like dictators who don’t want to relinquish power. They may think they are driving their party to the ballot box but in reality, they are driving their party to the morgue. In 2024, the only question left to answer is which party leader, Trudeau or Notley, will be stupider by staying on longer? My money is on Trudeau.

GRID AND BARE IT
Re “Trudeau Liberals’ electric vehicles need a jolt of reality” (Brian Lilley, Dec. 20): It confuses me to no end that Justin Trudeau and Steven Guilbeault haven’t a clue as to how our existing electric grid infrastructure is supposed to support all-electric vehicles by 2035. Where exactly are we supposed to plug in an electric truck in Gowganda during our annual hunting trip? I have yet to see a plug-in station anywhere near Shining Tree. There is no hydro for miles on that highway.
