DEARLY MISSED
Saddened to hear about the passing of Michael Madsen. He wasn’t always in the best movies, but he always gave a strong performance no matter what. His performance in Kill Bill is probably his best. A mix of sympathy and psychopathy. I will miss his work. Michael Madsen, RIP.

NO SENSE
While watching what the Republicans are doing to strengthen Medicaid in the U.S., I’m reminded of Premier Mike Harris’ common sense revolution in Ontario. He knew, as do the Republicans and the majority of the electorate, that welfare programs are fraught with excess and fraud. It’s refreshing to see a government attack this abuse of taxpayers’ money. Unfortunately, we in Canada haven’t addressed our similar abuses for at least a decade. It appears it’s not in the Liberal mindset.

LOSING FAITH
As Postmedia columnist Rick Bell reports, Ontario Premier Doug Ford is giving Prime Minister Mark Carney the benefit of the doubt. I supported Ford before he entered provincial politics and since, but I do not share his confidence in Carney. Our already floundering PM is, after all, not just a Liberal ideologue, but a tax and spend and waste Liberal. He WILL disappoint. Just as Pierre Trudeau when he ridiculed Robert Stanfield in 1974 over price and wage controls and then crippled us with them. Liberals lie, cheat, steal and flip-flop. It’s what they do; it’s who they are. Carney hints at building pipelines to free Canada from Justin (Trudeau)’s decade of debilitating economic stagnation. Don’t bet on it. Carney will submit to the real 800-pound gorilla — Quebec, not Ford — and condemn us to even worse decline.
