BRIDGE NOT TOO FAR

A good nation-building project for Canada and all the provinces, with the help of their premiers, would be to construct overpasses along the Trans-Canada Highway where problematic intersections exist. These intersections where deaths and serious accidents have occurred would become a thing of the past. My friend who travelled extensively on U.S. highways says Canada could copy the U.S. system that has numerous overpasses built into its interstate highways, which reduces high-speed accidents and doesn’t impede vehicle travel.

FOOTING THE BILL

I am a big fan and looking forward to the 2026 World Cup. However, some things I just don’t understand. Why are they advertising on television and who is paying for it? The games will all be sold out, long before they even begin. The other thing I don’t understand is that every night on the news, something is mentioned about public transit being ready for the World Cup, as if it is a huge deal. We are hosting a few games (so what). There are 81 Jays games each season, with close to the same number of people at most of them. Yes, public transport is important and too many projects are far behind and well over budget, but what have a few soccer games got to do with it? (Come on, England!)

COPYCAT CARNEY

Re “Cool with Carney” (Letters to the Editor, July 16): The letter writer said Mark Carney sounded like a prime minister and Pierre Poilievre did not. I’m not sure why he came to this conclusion, as Carney stole all of Poilievre’s platform. Guess it just sounded better coming out of a slick banker.
