Hats off to your July 5 Editorial, “‘Serious’ nations don’t rewrite their history”! People who seek to destroy the past history of a country are trying to control the future. When you forget what made your country successful, warts and all, you destroy the foundations of your democracy. Also, you can predict where this is headed with the results thus far. We have eroded our commonality and replaced it with division. If you can’t find agreement on the founder of your country, what can you find agreement on?

(There was a period of time a few years ago when there was a mad rush to cancel the past. It’s high time to stop this madness)

PORN TAX

If Prime Minister Mark Carney wants to make up the shortfall of losing the Digital Services Tax, he should just bring in a huge tax on porn. That’s right! Tax the heck out of porn. The porn industry is making zillions, so it won’t hurt them. I remember after the internet came about there was an editorial cartoon in the Star (back when it was readable). It showed a computer with several pipes coming into the back of it. A couple of small pipes were labelled finance and education. A slightly bigger pipe was labelled news and entertainment. Then there was an incredibly huge pipe labelled porn. (You had to see it. Hilarious.) They weren’t so far off the mark. One thing the Liberals are good at is figuring out how to tax everything. They could make enough to pay off the national debt, feed all the homeless, and have some left over for a few ‘Porn Slush Funds.’ They could have a Right Honourable Minister of Porn. Tax the workers, tax the internet providers, tax the old-school magazines, and tax the sites. For a government that likes screwing people over, this should be right up the Liberal alley. Scoff if you want, but I just might have something here.

(There is likely some bureaucrat’s report on doing this very thing)
