LOCATION MATTERS
Two comments on Jay Goldberg’s July 24 column “Toronto Pearson airport continues to underperform”: 1. You do not want an airport anywhere near a city centre for three reasons: A. The noise levels for people who live near such an airport would be unbearable; B. The multiplicity of high-rise buildings near a city centre would create a piloting navigational nightmare; C. Any aircraft misfortune that would occur over such a densely populated area would become a multi-casualty emergency services apocalypse, both in the air and on the ground. 2. The reason for the overnight flight restrictions is noise abatement — to protect the people who moved there after the airport was built. Pearson airport (nee Malton) was built in the countryside, away from population, in order to provide a clear, safe space with 10,000-plus-foot runways for wide-bodied jets. People who then bought new houses — built right beside the existing airport — complained that the airplanes were making too much noise! The reality is that airports need space and airports make noise. Deal with it.

(It is more than just about location – it’s the passenger experience at Pearson, and it’s poor)
SAME LIBERAL TEAM
Smoke-and-mirrors Mark Carney has done nothing but add to the huge deficit. He was elected because he was thought to be ‘the one’ who would straighten out Donald Trump. How has that worked out? Then he was going to create huge new projects and Canada would be rolling in cash. How has that worked out, Liberal voters? As everyone is now realizing, same team, different coach!
And the new coach seems to be trying his best to bankrupt Canada. We are going to be the new Greece with no investors wanting to hear the word Canada! Very sad.

(Canada has become less attractive as a place to do business which is problematic in the long run since the US is flinging open their doors for investment)
