OVER THE OPENING

I looked forward to watching the opening ceremony of these Olympics as I have over my many years. This was the phoniest, most lavish, and longest one that was nothing like what the opening should be. It was nothing like the way they have always been, held at the stadium where the athletes marched in proudly representing their country. As the years went by, more and more was added by the host country, with performances showing their country’s talents. Then there’d be the formal raising of the Olympic flag, welcoming speakers, singing the Olympic anthem, and finally, lighting the Olympic torch. It was very meaningful. After the Games were over and medals won was when the fun ceremony came along and the closing and passing of the flag to the next host country was held, with the athletes relaxed and enjoying the friends they made. It was long because of the boats going down the Seine, then the ceremony going all over Paris, finally the torch lighting nowhere near the where the activities will be, but floating in the air. Finally, having Celine Dion start singing was too much, I turned it off. I hope the athletes will become more set on their task of being the best at their particular sport, which I will enjoy.

(The parade of athletes down the Seine was unique and Celine Dion’s performance was a triumph. The insulting depiction of the Last Supper was too much. In the end, the athletes shine and all that matter are the games.)

MISDEEDS

Giving big corporations fines for misdeeds or fraud on the public is a joke. They will simply raise prices until the fine money is collected back. Jail?

(If it is criminal, then perhaps.)

HIGH INFORMATION VOTER

Speaking with some conservative friends, I’m told how much they like Pierre Poilievre for prime minister, but dislike Donald Trump for president. Their policies are essentially the same! Choosing people based on their “personalities” is how we ended up with Trudeau. Take the time to inform yourself on politicians’ actual platforms.

(One things most Canadians do agree on: Trudeau has to go.)
