Re “Tory truly not much better” (Brian Lilley, June 17): Is there adult in the room? It appears that John Tory will benefit from the same shortsightedness that Prime Minister Mark Carney did: Follow an inept leader who will make you look mature by comparison, regardless of your personal credentials or qualifications. Tory is likely Mayor Olivia Chow’s biggest supporter right now. Through her incredible lack of leadership, she is his pathway back to power.
(As we saw in the last election, it was about name recognition and Tory certainly has that but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a good thing if he runs and is elected again)
TORY ALWAYS CAVED
To reelect Tory is like putting out a fire with gasoline. Most of the problems in Toronto are because of his weak leadership. He caved in to every leftist agenda instead of addressing the real issues in our city. If he runs and is reelected, we’re back to where it all started. We need someone new who will actually deal with the problems of our city and not be influenced by radical leftist policies and Tory is not the answer. New blood and new councillors are the answer, not the same old, same old.

(At least with Chow you know you’re getting extreme left-wing policies)
BOMBERS AND JETS
Canada should buy forest fire-fighting water bombers and reduce the number of fighter jets like the F-35. We will continue to need them.

(We need both)
STYLE OVER SUBSTANCE
I would never quibble over fair remuneration for quality, competent, talented productive MPs or MPPs. My issues are the vetting process, which is too often style over substance, and how many do we really need? I believe that Premier Doug Ford had the right idea when he shrunk the size of Toronto city council and would like to see the same at Queen’s Park and Ottawa. I have lived through several of these expansions due to population growth and have never felt better served as a result.

(Shrinking the size of government — what a concept!)
