CREDIT TO CARNEY
In my mind, Mark Carney, gets an ‘A’ in his role as Canada’s new prime minister. Whenever our previous ‘look-at-me’ leader spoke on TV, I inevitably switched channels. My reaction was the same whenever the ‘everything-is-broken’ Opposition leader spoke. Carney has an aura of intelligence, confidence, sophistication, and determination. Whenever he speaks I listen, as I am certain most Canadians do, as well as global politicians and business leaders. Years ago, I recall reading that some people enter politics because they cannot stand being governed by fools. More than 2,300 years have past since Plato allegedly said, “If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools.” Thanks, Mark, for taking an interest.

(He does deserve credit for being far more serious than the previous Liberal leader – but Carney shares many of the same disastrous policies)

VOICE OF THE JAYS
Re “Airwaves” (Rob Longley, June 24): I can’t wait for Buck Martinez and Dan Shulman to get back on the broadcasts so we can enjoy some colour commentary insight into important and interesting parts of the game. When Ben Shulman and Caleb Joseph are on, all they talk about is every single pitch and catch thrown. The average fan does not focus that much on that element of the game. Boring! We mute the TV and just watch the game. Dan and Joe are tolerable but if Buck retires we hope they can find a good replacement. Not like most other networks.

(It is critical to find a voice that is interesting)

DROP AN ARM
Once again, the subject has come up that the TTC is looking at installing cameras to catch motorists and cyclists who insist on passing stopped streetcars. Here’s a simpler solution: Install arms that drop down as the streetcar is stopped.

(Just imagine how much the TTC plans on spending on this idea)
