STRIKEOUT
Without a doubt most baseball fans have witnessed the turnaround of both the Cleveland Guardians (Indians) and their beloved Toronto Blue Jays. The Cleveland franchise has blossomed over the last few years in achieving top billing in the American League Central, currenting atop the division by numerous games. The Jays, after rewarding seasons with record crowds under the direction of the Canadian duo of Paul Beeston and Alex Anthopoulos, have regressed to the bottom of the heap in the American League East. The common denominator is the dynamic duo of current Jays president Mark Shapiro and his general manager puppet Ross Atkins. They left the Cleveland team in disarray and have duplicated their failure with the Blue Jays. Shapiro offered Anthopoulos the GM tag, but without the final call on trades he left the organization. The former Jays GM went on to join the staff of the L.A. Dodgers before venturing onto the Atlanta Braves as president and general manager where he has turned tremendous success into numerous pennants and a World Series championship. Blue Jays ownership must change course as Shapiro and sidekick Atkins are way past their expiry date.

OUCH!
The Liberals were celebrating their by-election victory on Monday night before all the votes were counted. It seems they suffer from ‘electile dysfunction’ and ‘premature congratulation.’ There’s a pill for that. A big blue pill that will keep Canadians from getting the shaft in the future.

CHERRY PICKING
What’s wrong with our country when they refuse to give Don Cherry the Order of Canada. He definitely deserves it more than some of the people who received it this week. He has and always will be a true Canadian who loves his country.
