Re “Simmons Says” (Steve Simmons, May 25): When Auston Matthews said they had a lot of passengers in Game 7, he was right. Unfortunately, he was one for the entire series. Contrary to what Simmons thinks, it is a good look for the captain, that’s his job. He has a definable role and that’s not to mollycoddle everybody, it’s to speak from his heart and call it like it is.

(He likely was speaking honestly because it came from a place of familiarity)

SELF-SERVING RAISE

Re “Ontario MPPs set to vote themselves a massive pay hike” (Brian Lilley, May 29): Entitlement, pure and simple. At a time when so many people are struggling just to survive, any raise for MPPs already making more than adequate salaries is not acceptable. The $40,000 increase is more money than many people’s entire wage. They are not entitled to a raise because they have not had one since 2009. Nor because their federal counterparts make more. Raises should be given to those struggling to survive. Not to others who will use it to enhance their already more than adequate lifestyles. Our leaders need to work towards decreasing the gap between the haves and the have-nots — not widening it. A totally wrong and self-serving decision. And a slap in the faces of so many badly struggling.

(It’s not a good look, regardless of how it’s rationalized)

IN IT FOR THEMSELVES

It was nice to see the Liberals and Conservatives have a good time electing a new Speaker. It was also nice to see the same bunch of incompetence behind fake Mark Carney. Politicians make me sick! All they are for is themselves. They are elected to make things better for people, not themselves. Nothing changes. We can complain all we want but it is a losing battle. No consequences for corruption. Big pay cheques for people who do not know what real work is.

(It’s going to be the same old Liberals under Carney. Nothing will change and the scandals will continue where they left off under the guy)
