PROTEST PARK

The solution for invasive protesting is really quite simple (“It’s time to take back our streets,” Editorial, March 22). What we need, without jeopardizing anyone’s right to free speech, is a designated ‘Protest Park’ somewhere out of the way so as not to disrupt the freedom of others to live unimpeded. The protesters’ right to free speech will not be challenged unless they incite hate and violence. They can organize, dance, sing, chant and march in circles all they want in a controlled environment. There can be grandstands for their fans to cheer them on. They can sell popcorn, peanuts and bottled water to fund future protests. A safe and protected ‘freedomland.’ Now that’s what I call problem solving.

CARNEY OUT OF TOUCH

Re “Regular folks struggling to get by as PM hobnobs with hockey stars” (Joe Warmington, March 20): Warmington’s assessment of PM Mark Carney as an elitist who’s unconcerned about the plight of ordinary people is convincing. I’ve never seen Carney mixing with common folks, which suggests he has no connection with them, nor empathy for them. Conversely, you usually see him associating with members of the social, political and economic elite. That’s what you would expect from a self-described “globalist” and former governor of the Bank of England. So, the facts indicate that he’s unlikely to appreciate the challenges confronting common people. It’s important that they remember these things on election day.

RESEARCH NEEDED

As a supporter of three newspapers in Canada, I am very disappointed that all three newspapers didn’t do enough research that Mark Carney fixed the Highland Potato Famine and the 1929 Great Depression, and was instrumental in winning the First and Second World Wars! Shame on reporters!
