CRITICAL CARE

Today we celebrate the life and mourn the passing of my dear mother-in-law. There’s a certain stigma attached around the world about the relationships between mother and son-in-laws, but I was one of the lucky ones and couldn’t have asked for any better. For those of you who haven’t experienced it yet, the loss of a loved one propels your being into a trans-like state of disbelief, almost dream-like. What many won’t experience is how a doctor attending tells you in the morning that your loved one is ready for discharge (refused) and then in the evening asks for you to collect your family together as she won’t make it through the night. It is not the first time I witnessed someone I care for face a bigger uphill because of what might have been detected earlier. I don’t question the integrity nor the professionalism of our amazing medical people but wonder if changes to our protocols along with improvement of timing of tests might save precious lives.

AT WHAT COST?

How is Doug Ford considered a Conservative? He is outspending any past Liberal premier. It would appear the federal and provincial governments are competing as to which one will put us in more debt. A Conservative premier would be looking to pay down debt, not increase it. The excuses from both that it’s the tariffs is just a diversion.

(A rough ride in store, for sure)

WAKE UP

Re “100 days of action” (Victor Davis Hanson, May 18): An excellent summing up of the much-needed revolution in the U.S.A. But who will do the same for us in Canada, and release us from the grip of the woke international left which Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver have voted into power and chained us to yet again?

(Canadians will get what they voted for, sadly)
