TAX NOT SCRAPPED

I feel I must respond to your May 22 Editorial “Finally, the truth on carbon tax impact.” This is not a sudden revelation — many of us have known this for years. Pierre Poilievre has been warning the public that the Liberals were lying about the impact that the carbon tax would have on the economy and on families. The PBO verified Poilievre’s assessment several times. Sadly, far too many Canadians have chosen to put their faith again in a party that will do and say anything to get and keep power, always putting party before country. Also, please stop perpetuating the myth that Mark Carney “scrapped” the carbon tax. He merely signed an Order in Council to reduce the collection rate to 0%. It will take an act of Parliament to formally “scrap” it. Until then, he could, with a stroke of his pen, change that 0% to any amount of his choosing and Canadians shouldn’t be surprised if he does just that.

(The only people who trust the Liberals to ever do the right thing are those who voted for them — unfortunately the rest will pay the price for that)

PUT IN THE BARRIERS

It’s coming up to a year since my good friend was needlessly killed by a falling person from the Leaside Bridge. There is plenty of money, millions of dollars, available to spend on such frivolous pastimes as renaming city streets and subway stations but no funds available to install bridge barriers to protect innocent civilians from being killed while travelling on the Don Valley Parkway. Distorted priorities is the way I see it.

(What a tragedy. And yes, priorities are completely out of whack for most levels of government)

MURDER CHARGE

Can someone please explain to me how a person carrying a gun shoots someone and it’s an “accident,” so the charges are reduced to manslaughter. If you are carrying a gun, you meant to harm someone. Shouldn’t that be an automatic first-degree murder?

(Not in Canada — circumstances are always taken into consideration)
