TOUGH JOB

Re “Cops had no choice”(Joe Warmington, April 24): Thank you, thank you, thank you for your continuous support of our police. Unlike liberal media (you know who), you don’t lump all cops in with a few bad apples. Incredibly tough job.

(We sometimes don’t appreciate just how hard their job is. It’s important to support the police)

ANN ALL HEART

Re “50 years later Heart holds up as Seattle rockers play Toronto” (Jane Stevenson, April 11) definitely made me wish that I had been in attendance for the grand event. I have been a Heart fan since the early days. While the review emphasized that Ann Wilson performed in a wheelchair after emerging from a successful battle against cancer and recently breaking her elbow in three places after slipping on ice, it should be noted that the lead singer/guitarist has overcome other challenges in her life. Ann Wilson struggled with stuttering in her early and teenage years and found that her fluency in singing eventually carried over into her everyday life. As a woman who stutters, her story resonates with me because male stutterers outnumber woman who stutter. Ann Wilson is a much-needed role model for woman in the stuttering community.

SPEED PAYS

Re “Toronto adds 75 Automated Speed Enforcement cameras throughout city” (Jane Stevenson, April 16): Mayor Olivia Chow claims that 75 new speed cameras being deployed is about safety and “not about money.” If so, then perhaps the city should consider lowering speed camera fines. But it won’t because the devices are an easy way of collecting cash under the guise of promoting safety. Unlike Toronto, in March of 2025 Alberta’s government decided to disable 1,500, or 70%, of provincial speed cameras. Why? Alberta Transportation Minister Devin Dreeshen said the devices were a “cash cow” and didn’t improve road safety. His argument is persuasive and totally discredits Chow’s speed camera claims.
