JUDICIAL ACCOUNTABILITY
Re “Ford: Judges ‘a joke'” (The Canadian Press, May 1): You’ve got to love Doug Ford. He not only calls them as he sees them, he calls them out publicly. Judges in this province have proven case after case that they are weak and soft on crime — ask the families who have lost loved ones because all they were doing was standing somewhere minding their own enjoyment of life when some criminal out on bail for the fourth or sixth time recklessly fired a handgun. Every police officer and police department in this province is also calling out the soft court system. As Ford has said, it’s time to make judges accountable for their actions and interpretations of the law. It’s time to have judges elected, not appointed. It would also be a positive and creative step to have every judge in this province annually face an independent review board to evaluate their performance and adherence to the law and to the democratically elected government. It’s long past the due date to make our streets safe again and make the criminal element accountable for their actions.

KEEP CALLING THEM OUT DOUG
It is about time that an Ontario premier has finally said what most Ontarians feel about the pathetic revolving door that has become our justice system. It is absolutely true that there are some judges in the Ontario justice system who have proven that they should not be appointed to be judges in the Ontario justice system or in any of the other provinces in this once great country. I am in agreement with Premier Doug Ford — this nonsense cannot continue and there should be a way to remove some of these judges from their positions. Thank you to Premier Doug Ford for finally bringing this subject up.

(As has already been noted, Ford called like he saw it and most people agree)
