NO TIME FOR CRIME
Re “Girl who pleaded guilty to assault in fatal swarming gets 9 months probation” (The Canadian Press, May 6): Well! Another probation sentence for the death of Kenneth Lee. Is no one going to serve time for taking this man’s life? She played a role in his death. She needs to serve time. What is the judge thinking? What kind of society are we going to have when killers get no time for their crimes?

TRUMP’S ALACATRAZ
President Donald Trump says he is directing his government to reopen and expand Alcatraz. The reopening would serve as a “symbol of law, order, and justice,” he said. One of the reasons why Trump makes so many people uncomfortable: He brings our fear of uncertainty right in front of our noses every day. He brings us turbulence. Whether you like Trump or not, he reminds us we have no idea what will happen tomorrow or even in the next minute. ‘No idea what will happen next’ reminds me of the Anglin Brothers, who were Depression-era men who had a history of many small-time bank robberies and equally numerous jailbreaks. Eventually, their crimes caught up to them, and the federal government sent them to Alcatraz, known for its inescapability. Now, there is nothing Pollyanna about finding comfort in the unknown. Instead, doing so allows one to harness their strength and be completely honest in the moment. Although Trump creates more uncertainty every day, I’ve stopped looking for certainty when there is none. I take a deep breath. I realize and accept life possesses many maybes. And if Trump does get his way, will I buckle up my seatbelt? Absolutely. But I will also allow myself the pleasure to imagine Trump at Alcatraz in a newly added presidential suite.

(Hoping the U.S. president goes to prison because you don’t agree with him is an extreme position to take. The Democrats tried for years, and failed to do this)
