BACK TO REALITY
Justin Trudeau’s comments about families and climate change (“Time for a carbon tax election,” Jerry Agar, Nov. 19) are typical of the ‘insulated’ — those protected from reality by position (usually academia, public office or service) or by wealth (often derived from oil and gas, such as Trudeau’s). It’s amazing how many anxious to call out privilege in others can’t see it in themselves.

(The current prime minister is so out of touch with reality it’s shocking. But he doesn’t care)
FUNDS FOR SINGH
What if we set up a GoFundMe page to collect enough money to get the millionaire socialist Jagmeet Singh his ‘set-for-life pension’? Do you think he would then drop his support of Trudeau, go quietly into the night, and allow Canadians the opportunity to elect a real government?

HALT RUSSIA’S HOCKEY
As the vicious and nonsensical war in Ukraine drags on and on and on, and threatens to escalate, perhaps there’s a ploy to unequivocally end Russian aggression once and for all! What if the National Hockey League indefinitely suspended, without pay, every player of Russian origin with no exceptions until all hostilities cease? As Alexander Ovechkin creeps tantalizingly close to breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goal scoring record, don’t you think that Ovie’s buddy Putin would sit up and take notice? The NHL has already banned Russia from the Four Nations Tournament this February, so there is precedent for this draconian move. There’s so much elite hockey talent worldwide that any change in level of play without Russians for a period of time would be indiscernible. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

(It’s unlikely this would deter Putin. Consider all of sanctions, getting kicked out of what was then the G8, banned from other sporting events – none of this has had an impact)
VOTERS’ BAD CHOICE
Re “Mississauga Mayor Carolyn Parrish is an embarrassment” (Brian Lilley, Nov. 18): Carolyn Parrish is not the embarrassment. Once and for all, it is the voters who keep electing these types of people to office that are the embarrassment!
