Re “Into the fryer” (Sylvain Charlebois, Oct. 2): We do not need any more studies into the impact of minimum wage increases on employment. Increases in the minimum wage rate do result in job losses or reductions in hours of work. Higher minimum wage rates make it more difficult for young people to gain some work experience. Since many young people get jobs in the fast-food sector, any adjustment to higher wages, such as automation, will impact them. Social activists think that the way to eliminate poverty is to increase the legal minimum wage. Higher wages lead to higher prices and consumers are likely to cut back on non-essential purchases such as fast-food. Charlebois raises some good questions about the future prospects for this industry.

TRUDEAU CONTINUES DESTRUCTIVE PATH
Re “Trudeau ‘trying to crush free speech’ with new podcast rules, Musk says” (Postmedia News, Oct. 1): Kudos to Elon Musk for rightly calling out Trudeau’s ongoing attacks on free speech! Trudeau’s Bill C-18 requires big tech companies like Meta and X to compensate media organizations if they want to continue to host Canadian news carried on their platforms. Obviously, Trudeau is very fearful of damaging podcasts against him by people like Dr. Jordan Peterson on these forums. We fought two World Wars to give Canadians the free speech that Trudeau keeps trying to destroy. Canadians better wake up because once free speech is gone you never get it back. More and more our narcissistic leader is operating like a real dictator.

X MARKS THE SPOT
Although Elon Musk is prone to (frequent) hyperbole, Canadians would be wise to listen to his most recent warning. As the Liberal government continues to ‘modernize’ our online experience in Canada, with some of the most restrictive online regulations and legislation in the Western world, Musk claims that Trudeau is trying to crush free speech in Canada. While “crush” might be a bit harsh, manipulate and control would certainly be accurate.
