Bob Dyce has finalized the 2025 Ottawa Redblacks coaching staff by retaining four assistants and replacing six from last season’s team.
Among those who won’t be back is Greg Marshall, the 65-year-old former Ottawa Rough Riders legend, who is one-and-done after coaching the Redblacks’ defensive line in 2024.

“The decision to make changes to a coaching staff is one that is never taken lightly, with numerous factors taken into consideration,” said Dyce, who is entering his third season as head coach of the Canadian Football League team. “Greg is someone who is highly regarded both in Ottawa and our league for his contributions to the game as a player and a coach. As is the case for all of our coaches who aren’t returning to us in 2025, we are deeply grateful for everything he contributed to our team last year and wish him nothing but the best.”

Marshall’s role will be filled by 44-year-old Kai Ellis, who has spent the past decade coaching in the U.S. college ranks after an 11-year playing career as a defensive end that included CFL stops with the Ottawa Renegades, Montreal Alouettes, Calgary Stampeders and Winnipeg Blue Bombers, as well as time with the NFL’s San Francisco 49er’s and the San Jose Sabercats of the Arena Football League.
New defensive co-ordinator Will Fields has also brought in as his defensive backs coach Myron Lewis, who worked with him in Toronto last season.
As previously reported, former Redblacks head coach and B.C. Lions head coach/GM Rick Campbell is Ottawa’s new special-teams coach, while Isiah Johns joins the Redblacks full-time as a coaching assistant after spending last season’s training camp as a coaching intern.
The only new face on the offensive side is a familiar one, as 2014 Redblacks offensive co-ordinator Mike Gibson returns to the team as offensive-line coach.
Along with Deion Melvin, the linebackers coach who returns with the added title of assistant head coach, also back from the 2024 staff are offensive co-ordinator Tommy Condell, receivers coach Travis Moore and running backs coach Nate Taylor.
“I am thrilled to continue working with Tommy, Travis, Nate, and Deion, and ecstatic about adding Will, Rick, Mike, Kai, Myron, and Isaiah to our staff,” Dyce said. “Our group contains a wealth of both experience and new blood, and we’re all excited to get back to work with our talented group of players to build on the positive growth we had last season.”
