If you’re a fan of great beer, great food and great music, the Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst Craft Beer Festival is brewing up all of the ingredients for a can’t-miss good time on the weekend of Feb. 28 to March 2.
“There are lots of outdoor craft beer festivals all times of the year in our region — particularly in the spring and summer — but we wanted to do something that no one else was doing in the wintertime,” said Andrew Buwalda, general manager of Deerhurst Resort.
Now in its fifth year, one of the big draws for this year’s event is Ontario alternative rock band Finger Eleven, one of the best-selling Canadian bands of all time.

Of course, the other big attraction of the festival, as the Beerhurst-at-Deerhurst name suggests, is the local craft brewers who are there to pour samples of their wares to thirsty festivalgoers. Participants include the likes of Lake of Bays Brewery, Gateway City Brewery, Couchiching Craft Brewing Co. and Hockley Valley Brewing Co.
New at this year’s festival is the addition of a Saturday afternoon beer skate which promises to be the perfect wintry outdoor experience. It will feature beer sampling, skating, cosy firepits and more.
For people who want to make a weekend of it, Deerhurst Resort is offering a two-night package that includes two evenings of shared accommodation, a Friday welcome party, an invitation to the Saturday beer skate, two Beerhurst “Brews & Food” tickets per person for use at the Saturday night party that features the Finger Eleven concert as well as a commemorative Beerhurst beer glass. Additional beer samples and food station items are available via purchased Brews & Food tickets.

If you just want to attend the Saturday night party featuring the Finger Eleven performance, the resort also offers a one-day package that provides entrance to the festival, two Brews & Food tickets per person as well as a Beerhurst beer glass. You can also purchase more Brews & Food tickets.
Buwalda noted that the resort’s culinary team is curating an exciting menu that will pair perfectly with beer. In previous years guests enjoyed a wide variety of delicious dishes such as bison sliders and pretzel bites. He added that all of their food is created in-house, and the resort prides itself on the quality of its offerings. With four restaurants on-site and a full banquet and catering department, the resort served 280,000 meals last year alone.
