Alouettes say fake Facebook accounts masquerading as players, coaches

The Montreal Alouettes are warning fans about potential fraud through social media accounts allegedly impersonating their players and staff.

The organization issued a notice entitled “Fraud alert” on Tuesday afternoon, saying it learned that “certain individuals are creating Facebook accounts” to ask people for money or personal information.

“Our players and coaches will never contact you privately to request money, your contact information, or any other confidential information,” the team wrote on X.

The Alouettes urge anyone who receives “a suspicious message” to not answer. Instead, they should report the account to Facebook.

The team also thanked fans for their vigilance and protecting their information.
