A little more than an hour before the scheduled start of the Jays’ road game against the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday, the team announced that Guerrero was removed from the starting lineup because of left wrist discomfort.
The injury isn’t expected to keep Guerrero out of the lineup long, and he was in the dugout for his team’s 8-2 win.
Guerrero, who was riding a five-game hitting streak, hit a 450-foot home run — into the wind, no less — on Wednesday, a towering shot that cleared the Green Monster in left field at Fenway Park.
With an off-day Monday, there’s a good chance the Jays give Guerrero Sunday off to rest. He reportedly was nursing some discomfort on Friday, and when that persisted on Saturday, the Jays opted for a cautious approach.
