Vladimir Guerrero Jr. loves to play in New York. But he’d rather die before ever signing with the Yankees.
Amid speculation about whether the Toronto Blue Jays first baseman will sign a long-term deal with his current team, any hubbub about him packing his bags for the Big Apple have been shut down by the 23-year-old.
In an interview with Dominican radio personality El Doto Nastra, Guererro said he likes playing at Yankee Stadium as it’s one of his favourite ballparks to compete in.
But when asked about whether he’d join the Yankees, Guererro Jr. said he’d never be caught dead in the team’s pinstripes.

“I like to play in New York, I like to kill the Yankees. I would never sign with the Yankees, not even dead,” Guerrero said, as translated by sports journalist Hector Gomez.
As the Toronto Sun’s Rob Longley has reported, the Blue Jays are hoping to retain Guererro Jr.’s talents before he’s up for free agency in 2025. If his current deal isn’t extended, the popular Jays slugger may be up for a pay raise via second year of arbitration.
MLB Trade Rumors reported Guererro Jr. earned US$7.9 million this year, and is projected to make $14.8 million next year.
