Blue Jays DFA veteran Chad Green as the club's bullpen doors keep revolving

The Chad Green era with the Blue Jays came to a rather unceremonious conclusion.
A true professional who stepped in the closer role last season when no one else was even remotely capable of handling it, the veteran was designated for assignment Tuesday, mere moments after the Jays acquired a rental reliever in Seranthony Dominguez from the Baltimore Orioles.
The moves came after the Orioles pasted Toronto in the first game of a split doubleheader.
Dominguez, a right-hander, was available to the Blue Jays for the doubleheader’s second game.
Green spent his first seven seasons in the big leagues with the New York Yankees.
In three years with the Blue Jays, the right-hander appeared in 109 games, including 53 in 2024, when Green recorded 17 saves.
This season has been a nightmare for Green, who has the dubious distinction of leading all MLB relievers in home runs surrendered.
He gave up two in Toronto’s 16-4 loss in Game 1 of the doubleheader to give Green 14 dingers surrendered this season.
It’s a tough blow for Green, but one that shouldn’t be considered surprising, given his struggles.
As Thursday’s 6 p.m. trade deadline approaches, the Jays are said to be involved in talks for a handful of pitchers.
One of the most rumored is St. Louis Cardinals reliever Ryan Helsley.
