Mississauga man sings Canadian anthem at Blue Jays' spring game ... and nails it!

You can’t make this up: A group of 15 Canadians recently bought tickets for the Blue Jays spring training game Friday in West Palm Beach against the Houston Astros when a most unusual question was asked by the sales representative on the phone.

“Can you sing the Canadian national anthem at our game?” Linda Guertin of Mississauga froze when asked the rather odd question.

“No,” Guertin she answered immediately, “but I think my husband can.”

Her husband did. On Friday night, for the first time in his life, a rather nervous Robert Guertin, all dressed up in his own Blue Jays jersey, took the microphone and proudly belted out the Canadian national anthem at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches. He had never sang in public before.

“I was so nervous I almost forgot the words,” said Guertin, 67. Turns out, he didn’t forget them and he’ll never forget the experience.
