Are things getting a bit hot between a couple of Indiana Fever stars?
Sophie Cunningham, who has served as an “enforcer” of sorts for Caitlin Clark on the court, made a little jab at the WNBA megastar during the latest episode of her Show Me Something podcast.
Clark, who has been sidelined for the Fever due to a groin injury, recently commented on a TikTok video featuring Cunningham and teammate Lexie Hull in which the pair were lounging poolside, soaking up some sun in two-piece swimsuits.
“Convince us there’s a swimsuit brand that wants to partner with two Indiana Fever mermaids,” Cunningham’s caption read.
Clark, however, appeared to call them out in the comments, writing, “Swimsuit brands plz comment ‘focus on basketball.’”
Cunningham touched on her comment during the podcast, which was released Wednesday, while pointing out — albeit in a seemingly playful manner — that Clark has been out of action for about a month.
“Dude, you are ruining me and Lexie’s deals,” she said. “We’re the ones who have actually been playing, and we need a little break, and that’s when we go to the pool. And I think only like five companies reached out.”
Cunningham then poked fun at Clark’s pale skin tone and her preference for less-revealing swim attire.
“I was like, ‘Dude, you don’t have to be a hater. I’ll get you like a one piece that only shows your eyes,'” Cunningham said. “She did something and has this big bruise on her leg, and I was like, ‘You’re finally getting colour.'”
Cunningham originally had responded to Clark’s comment with a since-deleted comment that read: “Maybe a brand will make a full body wet suit for your pale a** too … We all win!”
Cunningham made headlines last week when she was on the receiving end of an unfortunate viral incident.
During last Tuesday’s game between the Fever and the Sparks in Los Angeles, Cunningham was grazed by a sex toy thrown during action.
As Cunningham approached the free-throw line, the object hit the floor and appeared to graze the forward’s leg. She hopped up on one foot and held up her arms as she began to realize what had happened. Sparks star Kelsey Plum then walked up to the bright-green dildo and kicked it off the court.
Cunningham had been one of several WNBA stars to speak out about the lurid objects being thrown on the court, worrying that someone could end up hurt.
“Stop throwing dildos on the court,” she posted on social media site X last week. “You’re going to hurt one of us.”
However, Cunningham seemed to take the latest incident in stride, replying to the tweet earlier Wednesday morning with the comment: “this did NOT age well.”
Cunningham also confirmed on an Instagram Story that she did, in fact, get hit by the object.
“No way that thing actually hit me. I knew I shouldn’t have tweeted that,” Cunningham wrote last week.
