Jay Cutler is about to experience a very harsh reality.
The former all-star NFL quarterback and ex-husband of reality TV star Kristin Cavallari is set to serve some time in jail after cutting a deal in his DUI case from last year.
Cutler, who played for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins during his NFL career, will serve a few days in jail after pleading guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI, according to TMZ.
In exchange for cutting a deal, prosecutors for Williamson County in Tennessee dismissed the weapons charge he was facing.
The 42-year-old former Pro Bowler pleaded guilty in court and was sentenced to four days in jail. He also was ordered to pay a $350 fine and serve a year of supervised probation, according to the outlet.
Cutler is set to serve his sentence in late September and also must attend a DUI safety course. His driver’s licence has been suspended for a year.
The incident occurred in October 2024, in Franklin, Tenn. Police said Cutler showed signs of being intoxicated after being involved in an accident in which the QB had rear-ended another vehicle.
Cops said he was slurring his words and refused to take field sobriety tests at the scene, but later had a blood sample taken at a local hospital. Police said they found two firearms in his vehicle, one of which was loaded.
Cutler originally had been charged with DUI, failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, implied consent and possession of a handgun while under the influence — the other charges were dropped as part of his plea deal.
The retired ‘gunslinger’ quarterback is a known hunting enthusiast. Earlier this year, he sparked outrage after sharing pictures of himself while on a big-game hunting trip to South Africa.
Cutler shared a picture on Instagram of himself kneeling next to a Sable antelope he killed during the trip.
“Kicked off the Africa hunt with a beauty,” he captioned his post. “Sable down.”
Many followers on social media shared their harsh reactions to the post by Cutler.
“I went to Africa on a safari and saw the most incredible wildlife and never once thought about murdering them,” one follower replied
“Wow, Jay. You killed a wild animal in a place it’s rarely hunted and it had zero idea you were a threat,” another wrote. “Suppeeerrrr impressive buddy.”
“Pretty sad that you are proud to have taken down this beautiful animal,” a third user wrote. “Paying big bucks to have someone find you a large beautiful animal that you can shoot at close range is not hunting.”
During his 12-year NFL career, Cutler played for the Broncos, Bears and Dolphins, reaching the Pro Bowl once in 2008. He had a record as a starter of 74-79 and threw for more than 35,000 yards in his career while also racking up 227 touchdown passes and 160 interceptions.
In 2020, Cutler went through a public divorce with Cavallari after 10 years together.
