AUGUSTA, Ga. — Augusta National saw its first bad drive of Masters week before the tournament had even started.
Police arrested a driver on suspicion of driving under the influence on Tuesday evening inside the gates of the storied golf club.
Richmond Country Sheriff’s Office say at shortly after 6 p.m., 35-year-old Julie Dicks tried to evade the busy traffic on Washington Rd. outside Augusta National by driving in the turning lane.
When police tried to pull her over, Dicks allegedly didn’t stop and instead turned her 2024 Misubishi Outlander into the Gate 5 entrance of the golf club.
After encountering a dead-end, police were able to stop the driver and take Ms. Dicks into custody.
“At no point during this event were patrons or members of the public placed at risk,” police said in a statement. “The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office works in close partnership with Augusta National Security to ensure the safety of all patrons during the Masters Tournament.”
Dicks was previously arrested for DUI less than two months ago.
The Masters Tournament is set to begin on Thursday.
