That’s the lesson CBS broadcaster and former PGA Tour player Colt Knost learned on Sunday when the Dallas, Texas native donned his city’s hockey jersey on the day of Game 6 between the Stars and the Edmonton Oilers.

“DALLAS SUCKS! DALLAS SUCKS!”

That was the cheer, or the jeer, that greeted him at the fun and sometimes rowdy hockey-themed par-3 13th hole that has become a tradition at the RBC Canadian Open.

“I don’t think they like me here today,” Knost said in a video of the scene he posted to social media.

It was all good-natured fun on the golf tee surrounded by hockey boards and complete with a Zamboni and referees who split their time between pumping up the crowd and telling them to be quiet.

The Dallas Stars re-posted Knost’s X message with an added message of their own: “Let’s gooooo!!!”

Knost wasn’t the only one picking sides in the NHL’s Western Conference Final. Much to the approval of the Canadian crowd, Edmonton golfer Will Bateman arrived at the hole wearing Connor McDavid’s No. 97 jersey.

The hockey team posted a video of Bateman on its X account with the caption, “We’ve got a #LetsGoOilers chant at the RBC Canadian Open thanks to Edmonton’s own @Wil_Bateman rocking the McDavid jersey!”

In the end, Mike Weir hosted a televised detente in the jersey war as he sat between Knost in his Stars jersey and was joined by CBS broadcaster Amanda Balionis who was wearing an Oilers jersey.

Looks like this is going to have to be settled on the ice once and for all.
