“I think he played tremendous for us,” Leafs general manager Brad Treliving said. “We like this player a lot. If you saw the past few games, it started to taper a little bit.

“If you’re not going to be in and you’re a young player, you have to keep playing. You’re not going to sit in the stands.

“Nothing but good things about how Fraser has played. We saw his brain, we saw all things he could do. He will be back.”

Minten’s chances of making the Leafs out of training camp were derailed when he suffered a high-ankle sprain during a rookie game in Montreal in September. He had four points in five games with the Marlies prior to being recalled by the Leafs and making National Hockey League season debut on Nov. 20 against Vegas, when he scored the winning goal against the Golden Knights.

“Another year of experience, another year under his belt,” Leafs captain Auston Matthews said. “He has a great hockey mind, his IQ is something that jumps out to me.

“He’s just going to continue to get better and better. I thought he played really well when he has been up with us. You see a lot of potential there down the line as he continues to mature and grow.”
