Detroit’s team bus didn’t arrive at Scotiabank Arena until almost 6 p.m. Sunday, just an hour before the scheduled puck drop. The Red Wings’ original flight suffered mechanical problems Saturday night, then a new charter aircraft was brought in, which was delayed by the wintry weather.
The start was first pushed back to 7:30 p.m., then scheduled for 7:52. The delay took place during a very rare event on Toronto’s NHL schedule, back-to- back home games.
San Jose was held up Sunday getting from Ottawa to Buffalo, where the Sabres had to move back their start time on Martin Luther King Day from 1 p.m. to noon to accommodate the NFL wildcard game between the Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers.
