The Maple Leafs have plucked another potential prospect from the NCAA.
The Leafs on Monday night announced the signing of 6-foot-1, 203-pound centre Luke Haymes to a two-year contract beginning in the 2025-26 season. Haymes, 21, will join the Toronto Marlies for the remainder of 2024-25 on an amateur tryout.
A native of Ottawa, Haymes had 12 goals and six assists for 18 points in 22 games with Dartmouth College this season as he was limited by injuries. Last year, Haymes had 36 points (18 goals and 18 assists) in 31 games for Dartmouth. In 83 career games in three seasons in the NCAA, Haymes has 70 points (41 goals and 29 assists).
The signing of Haymes, who previously attended a Leafs development camp, comes four days after Toronto signed defenceman John Prokop out of Union College.
The Leafs have had some college signings work in their favour. Among the undrafted NCAA free agents they have signed are centre Tyler Bozak (2009), forward Trevor Moore (2016), and winger Bobby McMann (2020).
