The winger and the club avoided salary arbitration on Saturday morning, a day before a scheduled hearing in Toronto. The settlement is for one year at US$1.85 million, a day after Robertson’s camp filed for $2.25 million and the Leafs $1.25 million.

Robertson’s stints as a healthy scratch the past couple of seasons, including just three playoff appearances this previous year, put his starting position in doubt, while the club made offseason acquisitions that included bottom-six winger Dakota Joshua.

Robertson, 23, had 15 goals in 69 games last season and scored the last goal of Toronto’s second-round series loss to Cup champion Florida. Drafted by Toronto in the second round of 2019, he was open to a trade last summer, but decided on another year under new coach Craig Berube.
