William Nylander dialed in for new TTC phone service commercial

Call William Nylander an underground sensation.
Amid a saturation of gambling ads featuring the Maple Leafs, the usually reserved Nylander, the club’s current top scorer, does quite well in a new TV commercial plugging Rogers expanded cell phone service on the Toronto Transit Commission’s subway system.
Following a viral photo earlier this month of Nylander spotted taking the TTC to a game, the TV bit has the smiling right winger back on the train, quietly acknowledging fellow passengers in Leaf gear who’ve recognized him. He gets a FaceTime call from his Mom, joined by other family members, all nagging him that his tie is knotted incorrectly and his suit is the wrong colour. As the flustered Willy drops his earbuds in trying to obey transit rules about noise consideration, a fan pulls out her phone to snap his photo.
The ad, filmed right after the Leafs came back from Sweden early last week where Nylander had reunited with his Lare clan, debuted during Saturday’s game. Rogers is part owner of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment.
