Gabbie Hughes scores OT winner to lift Ottawa Charge past New York Sirens

OTTAWA — Gabbie Hughes capped a two-goal effort with the winning score 36 seconds into overtime as the Ottawa Charge earned a 5-4 victory over the New York Sirens on Wednesday in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.

Rookie Taylor House earned the first point of her career, deflecting a shot from fellow first-year player Stephanie Markowski, who had two assists for Ottawa, early in the second period.

Emily Clark and Shiann Darkangelo also netted goals for the Charge (7-1-4-8), which extended their point streak to seven games. Emerance Maschmeyer made 23 saves.

Rookie star Sarah Fillier and assistant captain Alex Carpenter each earned a goal and an assist for the Sirens (4-3-4-9), which lost their eighth in a row. Ella Shelton and Abby Roque, with the game-tying goal to force overtime, also scored.

Corinne Schroeder stopped 26 shots.
