“If it’s anything like the end of last year, he’s going to have a really good year,” Power, who was the No. 1 pick in 2021, said of his former University of Michigan teammate, who went No. 2. “I watched him in some of those games and he looked really good. And I heard he was lights out in his first pre-season game, he had a nice short-angle, short-side goal. He can rip the puck. He can put it anywhere.”
According to oddsshark.com, Power and Anaheim’s Mason McTavish have +400 odds of winning the Calder Trophy, followed by San Jose’s Willam Eklund (+500), Columbus’ Kent Johnson (+550) and Beniers (+700).
“I would say he’s more of an offensive guy,” Power said of Beniers, who scored three goals and nine points in 10 games with the Kraken last season. “It seems like he’s got no problem doing it at the NHL level.”
