Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was in quite the mood during his opening match at the 2023 Australian Open.
Facing American Marcos Giron at the Rod Laver Arena on Monday, Medvedev appeared to wrap up the match before turning around and yelling “f*** off” to a spectator in the stands, which caused onlookers to gasp, the New York Post reported.
It’s not the first time Medvedev was caught with his foot in his mouth Down Under. At last year’s Australian Open, Medvedev told a chair umpire he was being heckled by “empty brain idiots.”
At the time, Medvedev thought the heckling was attributed to his nationality.
“I can definitely see when you [are] playing somebody from the other country, they would go for them and not for(the) Russian … or something like this,” Medvedev said at the time. “I feel there is a lot more buzz about tennis in Russia right now. Hopefully, we’ll try to get more people to go for us.”
Medvedev faces Australian John Millman in a second round match on Tuesday.
