The Italian tennis star who secretly quit the game last year to move to America and become a lingerie model is back in the sport with a new role.
Camila Giorgi, who quietly walked away from tennis early last year, has resurfaced as a reporter.

She has been spotted interviewing players during this week’s ATP Argentine Open in Buenos Aires.
This comes nine months after she quit playing tennis, but didn’t officially announce her retirement until being named on the International Tennis Integrity Agency’s list of retired players. She would later confirm that her on-court career had come to an end.
Over the past few years, the blonde beauty has posted several modelling photo shoots to her Instagram, which boasts more than 719,000 followers.
The 33-year-old Italian’s shock retirement came amid rumours that the WTA had been unable to contract her for two months.
At the time, Giorgi reportedly had been accused of fleeing her home country to evade taxes as well as allegedly failing to pay rent and removing “half the furniture” from a rented villa near Florence.
Giorgi denied the allegations and explained the situation in a TV interview last year.
“Did I suddenly disappear? That’s the version they said,” Giorgi told Canale 5’s Verissimo in Oct. 2024.
“I didn’t disappear, I had to make an announcement in Paris about my withdrawal, then it came out on the anti-doping website that I had retired and the thing became public.
“I lived a little in Italy and a little in the United States. We stayed in Miami for 3 years. I would like to stay there forever, but I often return to Italy, I just don’t like to talk about what I do and it seems like I’m hiding … Now I’m happy, I’m where I would like to be.”
Giorgi’s lawyer, Edmondo Tomaselli, claims she did not “run away,” and that she also denies the allegations made by her former landlord.
In 2023, Giorgi also was embroiled in controversy over allegations that she received a fake COVID-19 vaccine certificate.
Giorgi repeatedly denied the allegations that she had false documentation, which would have allowed her to travel and compete in the Australian Open.
This came on the heels of an investigation in Italy after her family doctor revealed Giorgi had asked her about getting a false certification.
“I just did all my vaccination in different places, so the trouble is hers, not me,” Giorgi said at the time. “So with that, I’m very calm. Of course, if not, I couldn’t come here and play this tennis, I think.”
During her tennis career, Giorgi won four titles on the WTA circuit and reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon in 2018. She reached a career-high world ranking of 26 that year.
