Travel search engine KAYAK released its WTF: What the Future Report, after getting insights from a new survey with partner The Future Laboratory.

More than 9,000 people 18 and up in Canada, the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, France, Germany, Denmark and Sweden who travel for leisure internationally at least once a year were surveyed as well as hotel searches by KAYAK were analyzed to determine what lies ahead for those vacationing.

AI help

A new wave of travel agents is emerging — and they aren’t the human kind. Canadians will be looking to save both time and money using AI to help research and book future travel.

Canadians will also turn to AI to solve their top “travel headaches,” including comparing costs of flights (47%), comparing costs of accommodations (41%) and rescheduling delayed flights (29%).

By 2030, virtual AI Assistants will handle a variety of travel arrangements, effortlessly offering tailored trips and securing the best deals.

City jumping

Travellers will prioritize multi-stop trips over single-stop journeys, with 43% of Canadians saying their 2025 travel plans include visits to multiple cities.

Wellness travel

People are also beginning to prioritize their wellness and what better way to do that than with a getaway where pools, spas, fitness facilities and hot tubs are at the centre of relaxation, health and wellness.

Social media booking

Aspiring travellers who turn to their feeds for inspiration will soon be using social media as a modern-day ticket counter where they will actually book vacations.

According to the report, more than half (52%) of Canadians said they were influenced to book a trip after seeing images, video or reviews on a social media platform.

Virtual assistance

KAYAK predicts holographic concierges and automatic airfare refunds are the wave of the future, while 10% of air passengers will expect an immersive experience during a flight so VR entertainment could be the wave of the future.
