Prince Charles dreaded idea of dinner with Harry, says source

Prince Charles hoped to hash things out with son Prince Harry over dinner, in an effort to rebuild their relationship.

Charles planned a “one-on-one” meal with his younger son while Harry was in London, England, for the statue unveiling of his late mother, Princess Diana, a source told the Daily Mail.

The future King of England was reportedly in Scotland during the ceremony at Kensington Palace, but he intended to travel to London so he and Harry could clear the air — or, at the very least, ease some of the tension following Harry and Meghan’s controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey.

Charles was nervous and reportedly “dreading” the dinner, likely from the overall awkwardness since the Sussexes detonated those royal bombs, that left The Firm having to clean up the mess that ensued.

Or, as the Mail noted, perhaps Charles was worried he’d say something that would be misconstrued and repeated to Meghan once Harry returned to California.

It hasn’t been confirmed if the dinner actually happened, but even if there were only discussions of a potential tete-a-tete, some might perceive that as a bit of progress. Their relationship can’t stay strained forever, right?

That being said, “homesick” Harry was reportedly able to find the time to meet up with mates he had previously “cut off,” shortly after he returned to the U.K. at the end of June.

“He’s at last showing signs of wanting to reconnect with his old life,” a source told the Mail. “His friends are really excited, they think that the old Harry is coming back out of his shell.”

The insider added that they believe Harry’s realizing he doesn’t have to give up his old life to enjoy his new one in America.

“The two worlds he now occupies are not mutually exclusive for his friends, though they may well be for his family.”

Harry and big brother, Prince William, were able to put aside their feelings for an hour to honour their mum.
