These are the famous acts performing at King Charles' coronation

King Charles’ coronation is set to be one heck of a party.

Leave it to Buckingham Palace to enlist two American Idol judges — Katy Perry and Lionel Richie —  to headline Charles’ Coronation Concert and add operatic phenomenons, an iconic British trio, an English singer-songwriter and a classical pianist.

The event will also feature a diverse group of singers from the Portishead RNLI sea shanty choir, farmers, cab drivers and reggae groups across the U.K., who will give a special performance with The Virtual Choir, comprised of singers from across the Commonwealth.

Will there be any surprise guests? We’ll leave that up to the Palace to reveal.

Katy Perry

The pop singer is used to performing in front of the largest audiences around the world. When she isn’t judging aspiring singers on American Idol, the Teenage Dream hitmaker performs at her Las Vegas residency, PLAY, and her 2015 Super Bowl performance is still the highest rated in the event’s history.

Lionel Richie

Richie, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, was appointed the First Global Ambassador and First Chairman of the Global Ambassador Group for The Prince’s Trust in 2019 – a year after he started on American Idol. He’s also a Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner and has sold over 125 million albums worldwide so we think he’ll do just fine.

Andrea Bocelli and Sir Bryn Terfel

The Italian tenor Bocelli will perform a duet with Welsh opera icon Terfel and we can already feel the tears welling. Through his foundation, Bocelli sponsors an annual scholarship program at The Royal College of Music, supporting students to overcome barriers and access world-class training.

Terfel is an award-winning performer who was made a Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to Opera in 2003, received the Queen’s Medal for Music in 2006 and was knighted for his services to music in 2017.

Take That

Gary Barlow, Howard Donald and Mark Owen are reuniting on the stage for the first time since 2019, making for an epic comeback. The group performed at many Royal Variety Performances over the years, as well as supported The Prince’s Trust charity. In 2012, Gary Barlow even curated the concert outside Buckingham Palace for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee.

Freya Ridings and Alexis Ffrench

Singer-songwriter Ridings and composer, producer and pianist Ffrench will perform a duet, treating fans to a mix of her pop-folksy styles and his classical soul vibes on piano.

An audience of 20,000 is expected on the grounds of Windsor Castle where fans can look forward to “a broad mix of music spanning pop to classical, along with spoken word and dance performances reflecting arts and culture from around the U.K. and the wider Commonwealth,” the BBC, which is broadcasting the event live, said in a statement..

“The concert will celebrate a new chapter in the nation’s history, with themes of love, respect and optimism, celebrating the four nations, their communities and the Commonwealth.”
