Skilled scammers know how to seek out their victims. They build trust quickly by sharing their life experiences in order for you to open up, and then learn your weaknesses in order to turn them on you; Narcissism at its best.
Some ways to protect yourself, as a new home buyer:
1. Get legal advice prior to signing any documents. If there is a clause that you do not understand in a contract, seek clarification. This may sound obvious but it’s amazing at how many times people find themselves in shady situations and breaking free is more difficult or even impossible.
2. Don’t do any deals without a contract. Some scammer will say, “But you can trust me, don’t worry” or “I won’t screw with you.” They will give you the impression that they have your back. But this only serves their purposes. Verbal contracts don’t stand a chance in court.

3. Before disclosing any personal or business information, ask why it is being asked of you, in the first place. When working with clients, it is common to share some personal and business information back and forth.
Be wary if you find yourself sharing too many details. Perhaps while they are helping you, they are profiting from your other skill sets. There is no place for naivety.
As a new home-buyer the last thing you want to discover is problems in the home, or a situation that you cannot do anything about!
As mentioned, scams happen fast and people will play on those individuals who have less experience in certain areas. This is where moving slow, asking questions, and getting proper legal advice comes in.
