SUSPECT SOUGHT IN VAUGHAN VIOLENCE
A suspect is sought following two violent buy-and-sell transactions in Vaughan.
York Regional Police said the first incident happened on Wednesday night around 8:45 p.m. Two sellers arranged to meet a prospective buyer at what they believed was the buyer’s residence in the area of Trevor St. and Belview Ave. to complete the sale of a computer.
However, police say upon entering the backyard, the sellers were confronted by the actual homeowner, who told them to leave.
During the encounter, the suspect — posing as the buyer — showed what was believed to be a firearm and fled the area on foot without the computer.
In a second incident that same evening, shortly before 10 p.m., a victim met with a supposed buyer for the sale of an expensive computer graphics card at a parking lot in the area of Greenpark Boulevard and Weston Road.
During the meeting, police said an altercation occurred and the victim was struck with a firearm and the suspect fled without obtaining the item.
Investigators believe pedestrian traffic was present in the area during both incidents and encourage any witnesses, as well as anyone with dashcam footage or video surveillance in the area, to come forward.
The suspect is described as an Asian male in his late teens to early 20s, standing about 5-foot-7 with a thin build. He was wearing a black Nike Tech track suit and white shoes and armed with a silver firearm with a black handle.
Police also say he used the name ‘Jin – Rog 5090 astral’ when posing as a buyer online.

RENOVATION SCAMS
Toronto Police are making the public aware of home renovation scams as each spring they receive an increase in complaints from homeowners targeted by scams involving roofing, driveway resurfacing, brickwork and landscaping.
These scams are often committed by individuals posing as legitimate contractor and may go door-to-door offering discounted services for “leftover materials,” pressure homeowners to pay upfront, or begin work without a contract, only to disappear or deliver substandard results.
Police wants the public to be aware of this scam and to watch for the following red flags including unsolicited offers at your door or by phone, high-pressure tactics urging you to “act now,” requests for large upfront payments or full payment in cash, lack of written contracts or vague contract terms, no business address, website, or proper identification, and refusal to provide references or proof of insurance, vehicles without signage or local licence plates.
Anyone who is a victim of this scam or with information is asked to call police at 416-808-2222, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477), or at 222tips.com.
TELEPHONE SCAMS
York Regional Police are reminding the community to beware of ongoing telephone scams after citizens from across the region have been contacted by suspects posing as bank investigators.
The victims are told their debit or credit cards have been compromised and they are asked for their card numbers and Personal Identification Numbers (PIN) for ‘verification’ purposes.
In some instances, the suspects tell the victims that in order to help further the investigation, someone will be sent to their house to pick up their cards.
Once the suspects have the cards, they are used to make illegal purchases.
Other incidents have seen victims being phoned by what appears to be a wireless phone company, claiming to offer a special deal.
Similar to the bank investigator scam, the victim is asked to provide their card and PIN numbers for verification purposes to finalize the transaction. The information is used by the suspects to make illegal purchases.
Several victims have reported losing more than $20,000 as a result of the scams.
If you have been a victim of a fraud, and have lost money, report the incident promptly to the YRP Financial Crimes Unit either online at yrp.ca/ReportIt or by calling 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6627.
To report frauds where no money has been lost, contact the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre online or by calling 1-888-496-8501.
